Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program is a family skills training course designed to reduce risk factors for substance use and other problem behaviors in high-risk children ages 7-11.  It builds on protective factors by improving family relationships, parenting skills, and children's social and life skills.

Training sessions include:

  • 14 weekly meetings that last 2-3 hours each

  • Either "Parenting Training," "Child Training" or "Family Skills Training"

  • Dinner

  • Assistance with transportation and child care

  • Financial compensation for participating in the program

Strengthening Families is a research program sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and administered by MHCDO.
