MINNESOTA AVENUE DAY
CELEBRATES COMMUNITY AND CAMPAIGN TO
‘COME SPEND A LITTLE TIME & MONEY IN WARD 7!’

Washington, DC —Live performances, information and services, and family entertainment celebrating Ward 7!  This and more can be found at the Minnesota Avenue Day street festival, on Saturday, August 17, 2002, starting at 11:00 am on Minnesota Avenue, Northeast, between Benning Road and Ames Street.  Welcoming remarks by MHCDO President Loretta Tate will begin at 1PM.   This free event will feature the best in local talent performing gospel, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and R&B.  Vendors will be present to offer goods & services, arts & crafts and a wealth of information.  And, of course, there will be lots of activities for the children.

Major sponsors of Minnesota Avenue 2002 include DC Chartered Health Plan, BB&T, PEPCO, Sun Trust Bank, Radio One, Urban America, Ward 7 Association of Commercial Enterprises, DC Department of Housing & Community Development, and The African American Music Association.

Minnesota Avenue Day 2002 is a continuation of a long-standing tradition celebrating neighborhood and cultural heritage.  The event is also the kick-off of a yearlong campaign to reintroduce residents to local merchants and other resources, promote the local opportunities available to the greater Washington, DC community, and encourage more people to ‘come spend a little time and money in Ward 7!’

Minnesota Avenue Day 2002 is hosted by the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc. (MHCDO), a nonprofit corporation serving the Ward 7 community.  MHCDO is an advocate for neighborhood economic development, supports public-private partnerships, and is committed to the growth and expansion of the local Ward 7 business and commercial districts.
