The Keys to the
City: The D.C. Housing Market Takes Off, Bolstering the
Economy in the Nation's Capital
"...Southeast D.C., perhaps best known for its physical
separation from the rest of the city, is rapidly evolving
as a prime location for new construction. Banneker
Ridge, a development of 27 single-family detached homes...sits
on the site of a vacant and abandoned apartment complex.
The project, in part financed by Bank of America and without
any government subsidies, is the first housing of this type
constructed in the neighborhood in more than 30 years.
The project features three different housing models designed
to fit many lifestyles and budgets. ...The homes of this
new community, developed by the Marshall Heights Community
Organization in collaboration with its partner CIH Homes,
have all been sold. ...As a result of Banneker Ridge's success,
the development partnership is embarking on a similar project
comprising single-family homes, Hill Top Terrace, which
is in the final planning stages."
