Meet Ward 7

Beyond the federal buildings and monuments, Washington, DC is a city composed of unique and thriving neighborhoods.  In the most eastern part of the city lies Ward 7, a predominantly African-American community defined by its rich history, abundant natural beauty, and hardworking and caring residents.

Ward 7 is physically separated from downtown Washington, bordered on the west by the Anacostia River, the north and east by Prince George's County, Maryland, and the south by Ward 8.  Ward 7 contains four major commercial areas and 29 distinct neighborhoods:

  • Benning Heights
  • Benning Ridge
  • Burrville
  • Capitol View
  • Central Northeast
  • Civic Betterment
  • Deanwood
  • Dupont Park
  • Eastland Gardens
  • Fairfax Village
  • Fairlawn
  • Fort Davis
  • Fort Dupont Park
  • Good Hope
  • Greenway
  • Hillbrook
  • Hillcrest
  • Kenilworth
  • Kingman Park
  • Lincoln Heights
  • Marshall Heights
  • Mayfair/Parkside
  • Naylor Gardens
  • Northeast Boundary
  • Park Naylor
  • Penn Branch
  • Randle Highlands
  • River Terrace
  • Twining

With approximately 72,000 residents, Ward 7 is the second most populous ward in the city.  Four Metrorail stations (Minnesota Avenue, Benning Road, Deanwood, and Capitol Heights) and several bus routes serve the area.  Educational facilities include one high school, four middle schools, 20 elementary schools, and three public libraries.  Three public health clinics and a handful of private medical and dental practices provide residents with healthcare services.

Ward 7 demographic information is available from the DC Office of Planning and the Center for Neighborhood Information Services.
