Meet Ward 7
Beyond the federal buildings and
monuments, Washington, DC is a city composed of unique and thriving
neighborhoods. In the most eastern part of the city lies
Ward 7, a predominantly African-American community defined by
its rich history, abundant natural beauty, and hardworking and
caring residents.
Ward 7 is physically separated from
downtown Washington, bordered on the west by the Anacostia River,
the north and east by Prince George's County, Maryland, and the
south by Ward 8. Ward 7 contains four major commercial areas
and 29 distinct neighborhoods:

With approximately 72,000 residents,
Ward 7 is the second most populous ward in the city. Four
Metrorail stations (Minnesota Avenue, Benning Road, Deanwood,
and Capitol Heights) and several bus routes serve the area.
Educational facilities include one high school, four middle schools,
20 elementary schools, and three public libraries. Three
public health clinics and a handful of private medical and dental
practices provide residents with healthcare services.
