DayBreak Back-to-School Carnival
Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 1p.m. to 5 p.m.

Back-to-School Carnival MHCDO in conjunction with DayBreak, Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings presents an afternoon of fun for everyone! This Saturday in Marvin Gaye Park from 1-5p.m. join us for rides, games, prizes, food, entertainment and back-to-school giveaways. Lead Safe Washington Program

Lead Hazards cause serious health and development problems for young children if they breathe in lead dust or eat chips of paint. Even in adults, lead can cause health challenges. Together with the DC Department of Housing & Development we want to ensure that low income tenant's homes are lead safe. Citizens Crime Prevention Leadership Academy
Through September 2008

in its second year, the Citizens Crime Prevention Leadership Academy (CPLA), is a series of personal development workshops taking place in the Richardson Dwellings and Lincoln Heights public housing communities. Building upon residents' existing skills to further develop community networks and address neighborhood concerns, workshops are lead by experienced facilitators and include such topics as Self Defense and the Law, Learning to Embrace Commitment, and Firearms: Facts adn Fiction. Michael I. Watts, Jr. Confirmed
Board of directors confirms youngest president and chief executive officer

At its October 17, 2007 meeting, the board of directors of the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc. by unanimous vote, confirmed Michael I. Watts, Jr. as the president and chief executive officer of the organization. This permanent appointment comes a year after serving in that capacity at interim status. Read the press release.

MHCDO is seeking college student interns to further the mission and activites of the organization. Interns will gain hands-on experience forwarding housing, economic, and workforce development initiatives. Inner Voices
A Collection of Writings

MHCDO's Adult Education Literacy Program created a booklet in 2006 titled "Inner Voices" to showcase the hard work and literary skills of its adult learners. The booklet is filled with essays, poetry, opinions, photos, inspirational quotes, and results from a learner survey on life choices.
