Community Initiative
 |
Capacity-Building Phase
(1996-1998) |
For
three years, RCI participants engaged in a process of developing the
community-building capacity of residents, MHCDO, and other
neighborhood-based organizations.
Activities during this period included:
- Developing
the capacity of residents and neighborhood-based organizations to
engage in collaborative problem solving;
- Establishing
a governance structure representing a real partnership between
government, the private sector and the nonprofit community;
- Using
technical assistance to train new leadership in community empowerment
facilitation, conflict resolution, and the use of community organizing
as both a tool and strategy to rebuild community; and
- Strengthening
the internal capacity of MHCDO and other neighborhood-based
organizations.
