Adult
Education
MHCDO
is committed to providing Ward 7 residents with the basic
knowledge and skills needed to pursue further education,
vocational training or employment. We offer no cost access
to General Equivalency Diploma preparatory classes, introductory
computer instruction, and a family literacy program at
the Meadow Green Community Center.
General
Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Many of the individuals
who seek employment and other assistance from MHCDO do
not possess a high school diploma. These clients are referred
to the Meadow Green Community Center where they can take
an accelerated prep course and computerized practice tests
that will help prepare them for the GED exam. Prior to
undertaking the prep course, however, many students elect
to take classes to improve their reading and math skills.
Inner Voices...A
Collection of Writings from Adult Learners
In 2006, MHCDO's
Adult Education Literacy Program created a booklet titled
"Inner Voices" to showcase the hard work and
literary skills of its adult learners. The booklet is
filled with essays, poetry, opinions, photos, inspirational
quotes, and results from a learner survey on life choices.
